In the treatment of superficial ocular infections, a ribbon approximately 1 cm in length of Erythromycin Ophthalmic Ointment should be applied directly to the infected structure up to 6 times daily, depending on the severity of the infection.

For prophylaxis of neonatal gonococcal or chlamydial conjunctivitis, a ribbon of ointment approximately 1 cm in length should be instilled into each lower conjunctival sac. The ointment should not be flushed from the eye following instillation. A new tube should be used for each infant.

Neomycin And Polymyxin B Sulfates And Dexamethasone Ointment

Apply a small amount into the conjunctival sac(s) up to three or four times daily.

How to Apply neomycin and polymyxin B sulfates and dexamethasone ophthalmic ointment:
Tilt your head back. Place a finger on your cheek just under your eye and gently pull down until a "V" pocket is formed between your eyeball and your lower lid. Place a small amount (about 1/2 inch) of neomycin and polymyxin B sulfates and dexamethasone ophthalmic ointment in the "V" pocket. Do not let the tip of the tube touch your eye. Look downward before closing your eye. Not more than 8 g should be prescribed initially and the prescription should not be refilled without further evaluation as outlined in PRECAUTIONS above.

Bacitracin Ointment

Bacitracin Ointment

The ointment should be applied directly into the conjunctival sac 1 to 3 times daily. In blepharitis all scales and crusts should be carefully removed and the ointment then spread uniformly over the lid margins. Patients should be instructed to take appropriate measures to avoid gross contamination of the ointment when applying the ointment directly to the infected eye.
