  2.5 mg per 10 lb (4.5 kg) body weight per day. Average total daily oral doses for dogs as follows:

  5 to 20 lb (2 to 9 kg) body weight 1.25 to 5 mg 20 to 40 lb (9 to 18 kg) body weight 5 to 10 mg 40 to 80 lb (18 to 36 kg) body weight 10 to 20 mg 80 to 160 lb (36 to 73 kg) body weight 20 to 40 mg

  The total daily dose should be given in divided doses, 6 to 10 hours apart.

  For intravenous injection. The usual dose is 0.5 mL/20 lb body weight (0.05 mg/lb, or 0.11 mg/kg) to reverse the sedative effects of xylazine. The carefully calculated dose of yohimbine should be given intravenously slowly.

  The recommended dosage in the horse is 0.1 mg of butorphanol per kilogram of body weight (0.05 mg/lb) by intravenous injection. This is equivalent to 5 mL of Butorphic Injection for each 1000 lbs body weight. The dose may be repeated within 3 to 4 hours but treatment should not exceed 48 hours. Pre-clinical model studies and clinical field trials in horses demonstrate that the analgesic effects of Butorphic Injection are seen within 15 minutes following injection and persist for about 4 hours.

  Methio-Form Chewable Tablets may be fed free choice, from the hand or may be crumbled and mixed into the food. Dosing one time each day is appropriate, but daily doses may be administered in 2 or 3 divided doses if more convenient or in rare cases where animals may vomit a single daily dose.

  For urinary acidification in cats and dogs and prevention of struvite urolithiasis urinary pH should be reduced to approximately 6.0 - 6.6 and maintained in this range. Monitoring the pH of freshly voided urine may be advisable.
