HEARTGARD® Plus should be administered orally at monthly intervals at the recommended minimum dose level of 6 mcg of ivermectin per kilogram (2.72 mcg/lb) and 5 mg of pyrantel (as pamoate salt) per kg (2.27 mg/lb) of body weight. The recommended dosing schedule for prevention of canine heartworm disease and for the treatment and control of ascarids and hookworms is as follows:

Remove only one chewable at a time from the foil-backed blister card. Return the card with the remaining chewables to its box to protect the product from light. Because most dogs find HEARTGARD Plus palatable, the product can be offered to the dog by hand. Alternatively, it may be added intact to a small amount of dog food. The chewable should be administered in a manner that encourages the dog to chew, rather than to swallow without chewing. Chewables may be broken into pieces and fed to dogs that normally swallow treats whole.

Care should be taken that the dog consumes the complete dose, and treated animals should be observed for a few minutes after administration to ensure that part of the dose is not lost or rejected. If it is suspected that any of the dose has been lost, redosing is recommended.

HEARTGARD Plus should be given at monthly intervals during the period of the year when mosquitoes (vectors), potentially carrying infective heartworm larvae, are active. The initial dose must be given within a month (30 days) after the dog's first exposure to mosquitoes. The final dose must be given within a month (30 days) after the dog's last exposure to mosquitoes.

When replacing another heartworm preventive product in a heartworm disease preventive program, the first dose of HEARTGARD Plus must be given within a month (30 days) of the last dose of the former medication.

If the interval between doses exceeds a month (30 days), the efficacy of ivermectin can be reduced. Therefore, for optimal performance, the chewable must be given once a month on or about the same day of the month. If treatment is delayed, whether by a few days or many, immediate treatment with HEARTGARD Plus and resumption of the recommended dosing regimen minimizes the opportunity for the development of adult heartworms.

Monthly treatment with HEARTGARD Plus also provides effective treatment and control of ascarids (T. canis, T. leonina) and hookworms (A. caninum, U. stenocephala, A. braziliense). Clients should be advised of measures to be taken to prevent reinfection with intestinal parasites.
Ivomec Plus

Ivomec Plus

IVOMEC Plus should be given only by subcutaneous injection at a dose volume of 1 mL per 110 lb (50 kg) body weight. This volume will deliver 10 mg ivermectin and 100 mg clorsulon. For example:

IVOMEC Plus (ivermectin and clorsulon) Injection is to be given subcutaneously only. Animals should be appropriately restrained to achieve the proper route of administration. Use of a 16-gauge, 1/2" to 3/4" sterile needle is recommended. Inject the solution subcutaneously (under the skin) behind the shoulder (see illustration).

Any single-dose syringe or standard automatic syringe equipment may be used with the 50 mL pack size. When using the 200 mL, 500 mL or 1000 mL pack size, use only automatic syringe equipment.

Use sterile equipment and sanitize the injection site by applying a suitable disinfectant. Clean, properly disinfected needles should be used to reduce the potential for injection site infections.

No special handling or protective clothing is necessary.

The viscosity of the product increases in cool temperatures.

Administering IVOMEC® Plus at temperatures of 5°C (41°F) or below may be difficult. Users can make dosing easier by warming both the product and injection equipment to about 15°C (59°F).

The minimum recommended dosage is 1 mg/kg per day (0.45 mg/lb) or 1/4 syringe. When given once daily during the stressful period, ULCERGARD has been shown to effectively prevent stomach ulcers in horses. This effect was tested in horses exposed to stressful conditions for either 8 or 28 days.

For treatment of gastric ulcers, GastroGard Paste should be administered orally once-a-day for 4 weeks at the recommended dosage of 1.8 mg omeprazole/lb body weight (4 mg/kg). For the prevention of recurrence of gastric ulcers, continue treatment for at least an additional 4 weeks by administering GastroGard Paste at the recommended daily maintenance dose of 0.9 mg/lb (2 mg/kg).

LONGRANGE ™ (eprinomectin) should be given only by subcutaneous injection in front of the shoulder at the recommended dosage level of 1 mg eprinomectin per kg body weight (1 mL per 110 lb body weight).

Each mL of LONGRANGE contains 50 mg of eprinomectin, sufficient to treat 110 lb (50 kg) body weight. Divide doses greater than 10 mL between two injection sites to reduce occasional discomfort or site reaction.

LONGRANGE is to be given subcutaneously only. Animals should be appropriately restrained to achieve the proper route of administration. Inject under the loose skin in front of the shoulder (see illustration) using a 16 or 18 gauge, ½ to ¾ inch needle.

Sanitize the injection site by applying a suitable disinfectant. Clean, properly disinfected needles should be used to reduce the potential for injection site infections.

50 mL bottle size

Use only polypropylene syringes. Not for use with polycarbonate syringe material. If syringe material is not known, contact the syringe manufacturer prior to use for identification. Do not use beyond 3 months after stopper has been punctured. Discard bottle after 15 stopper punctures.

250 mL and 500 mL bottle sizes

Use only automatic syringe equipment provided by Merial. To obtain compatible equipment, contact Merial at 1-888-637-4251 or your veterinarian. LONGRANGE should not be stored in automatic syringe equipment. Automatic syringe equipment should be thoroughly cleaned after each use. Discard bottle after one stopper puncture with draw-off spike.

No special handling or protective clothing is necessary.
Equioxx

Always provide the Client Information Sheet with the prescription. The recommended dosage of EQUIOXX Injection for intravenous administration in horses is 0.04 mg/lb (0.09 mg/kg) of body weight once daily for up to 5 days. If further treatment is needed, EQUIOXX (firocoxib) Oral Paste for horses can be used at a dosage of 0.045 mg/lb (0.1 mg/kg) body weight for up to an additional 9 days of treatment. The overall duration of treatment with EQUIOXX Injection and EQUIOXX Oral Paste will be dependent on the response observed, but should not exceed 14 days. EQUIOXX Injection is a non-aqueous solution and should not be mixed with aqueous solutions (Do not flush through intravenous lines using aqueous flush solutions).

The recommended dosage of EQUIOXX (firocoxib) for oral administration in horses is 0.045 mg/lb (0.1 mg/kg) of body weight once daily for up to14 days. In target animal safety studies, toxicity was seen at the recommended dose when the duration of treatment exceeded 30 days.

Each marking on the syringe will treat 250 pounds of body weight, and each notch corresponds to approximately a 50 lb weight increment. To deliver the correct dose, round the horse's body weight up to the nearest 50 pound increment (if the body weight is an exact 50 pound increment, do not round up). Unlock the knurled ring on the syringe plunger by rotating it ¼ turn. Slide the knurled ring along the plunger shaft so that the side nearest the barrel is at the appropriate 50 lb weight notch. Rotate the plunger ring ¼ turn to lock it in place and ensure it is locked.

EQUIOXX may be given with or without food.

Always provide the Client Information Sheet with prescription. Carefully consider the potential benefits and risks of PREVICOX and other treatment options before deciding to use PREVICOX. Use the lowest effective dose for the shortest duration consistent with individual response. The recommended dosage of PREVICOX (firocoxib) for oral administration in dogs is 2.27 mg/lb (5.0 mg/kg) body weight once daily as needed for osteoarthritis and for 3 days as needed for postoperative pain and inflammation associated with soft-tissue and orthopedic surgery. The dogs can be treated with PREVICOX approximately two hours prior to surgery. The tablets are scored and dosage should be calculated in half tablet increments. PREVICOX Chewable Tablets can be administered with or without food.

Ivomec Pour-on For Cattle

The dose rate is 1 mL for each 22 lb of body weight. The formulation should be applied along the topline in a narrow strip extending from the withers to the tailhead.

Squeeze-Measure-Pour System

Attach the metering cup to the bottle. Set the dose by turning the top section of the cup to align the correct body weight with the pointer on the knurled cap. When body weight is between markings, use the higher setting. Hold the bottle upright and squeeze it to deliver a slight excess of the required dose as indicated by the calibration lines. By releasing the pressure, the dose automatically adjusts to the correct level. Tilt the bottle to deliver the dose. The off (STOP) position will close the system between dosing.
Squeeze-Measure-Pour System

Attach the metering cup to the bottle. Set the dose by turning the top section of the cup to align the correct body weight with the pointer on the knurled cap. When 220 lb (10 mL) or 330 lb (15 mL) dose is required, turn the pointer to "STOP" before delivering the dose. The off (STOP) position will close the system between dosing.

Connect the applicator gun to the collapsible pack as follows:
Attach the open end of the draw-off tubing to the dosing equipment. (Because of the solvents used in the formulation, only the Protector Drench Gun from Instrument Supplies Limited, or equivalent, is recommended. Other applicators may exhibit compatibility problems resulting in locking, incorrect dosage or leakage.) Replace the shipping cap with the draw-off cap and tighten down. Attach draw-off tubing to the draw-off cap. Gently prime the applicator gun, checking for leaks. Follow the manufacturer's directions for adjusting the dose. When the interval between uses of the applicator gun is expected to exceed 12 hours, disconnect the gun and draw-off tubing from the product container and empty the product from the gun and tubing back into the product container. To prevent removal of special lubricants from the Protector Drench Gun, the gun and tubing must not be washed.
20 Liter Pack

(676 fl oz/20 L Pack)

Use dosing equipment (applicator, draw-off tubing, cap with stem) compatible with IVOMEC (ivermectin) Pour-On. Other dosing equipment may be incompatible, resulting in locking, incorrect dosage and leakage. Follow the dosing equipment manufacturer's directions for adjusting the dose and proper use and maintenance of the dosing equipment. Connect the dosing applicator and the draw-off tubing to the container as follows:
Attach the open end of the draw-off tubing to an appropriate dosing applicator. Attach draw-off tubing to the cap with the stem. Replace the shipping cap with the cap having the draw-off tubing. Gently prime the dosing applicator, checking for leaks. When the interval between uses of the applicator gun is expected to exceed 12 hours, disconnect the gun, draw-off tubing and cap with stem from the product container, empty the product from the gun and tubing back into the product container and replace the shipping cap.
